About Us: What to Expect
Dress neatly, not overly formal (not like you have to wear a hat, if you are worried about that!). Of course, we encourage you to look your best for the Lord and not for us! Please be comfortable with whatever you have.
On a typical Sunday, you are greeted with a smile at the entrance to the Sanctuary, handed a bulletin and ushered in. Gathering music welcomes you as you take your seat and settle in. Take a moment to relax, say "Hello" to neighboring worshipers around you, and welcome any strangers in the crowd.
An acolyte brings in the Light of Christ to light up the altar candles, and then the liturgist makes the week's announcements. Centering music helps us re-focus on worship and the liturgy begins with the Call to Worship.
The Call to Worship is a responsive reading, where the liturgist reads a portion and the congregation reads a response. Then we sing an opening hymn and say an opening prayer together, followed by a responsive reading of a Psalm from the United Methodist Hymnal.
We respond to the Psalter Reading by standing to sing the Gloria Patri, and then sitting for the first scripture reading. This is followed by a children's message and the collection of our Tin Bucket Offering, which is loose change for our Missions programs. We respond by singing a hymn of response, followed by the main Offertory.
Ushers bring round the offering plates and take these up to the altar during the playing of the Doxology. We say an offertory prayer and then we have a song ministration by the Choir and/or Special Music by guest singers or one of our own soloists/duets.
The pastor preaches the sermon, leads us in a time of Prayer and then we sing our closing hymn, after which we receive the Benediction.
We remain standing in the pews, singing the Postlude song, while the pastor processes out with the acolyte.
The service at this point, is over, and you may leave your seat and interact with friends, and so on. The pastor greets every person as they go out of the Sanctuary, so take a breather and wait for your special moment with him before you leave.
